Website Optimisation - What does this mean?

Well, time and time again businesses commission website designers to develop a website on their behalf and once it is finished they type in the name of their new site into a search engine such as Google or Yahoo (sometimes within minutes of it going live!) and wonder, in complete amazement, why it does not appear at the top of the first page every time! Indeed, often they can’t even find it at all.  

Getting your website to the top of the search engine listings involves a huge amount of on-going work, unless you strike just lucky enough for the traffic to pour into your site, and become the next YouTube.  

Search engine rankings depend upon, amongst other things, flow of traffic, listings within third party sites, longevity of the site (it’s age), reciprocal links, use or lack of use of directories, key words, meta tags, and VERY many things more! All this takes time and where a business does not have the technical know how or the ‘right’ type of build for their website, i.e. a content managed website (you do it yourself), then naturally there is a cost involved in having somebody undertake this website optimisation to make the site work for you. If you can’t do it, then my guess is that the only other people that would do it for you are website optimisation businesses that are on the net or of course your existing website designer (the very person who probably didn’t sell you the correct type of site in the first place!). 

At The Image Suite we don’t adopt that approach. Nor do we do what many UK design agencies do and charge the best part of £75.00 per hour (€110.00) to design your website and just produce a book of instructions on how to update your website. This is how we approach your website design: 

1)       we ONLY design and develop content managed websites

2)       we normally include initial high class digital photography within the price quoted

3)       we allow you to use the photos for other promotional uses on licence

4)       we will teach you on a one-to-one personal basis to maintain and update your website

5)       we will teach you and coach you through effective website optimisation or

6)       we offer to undertake your website maintenance, updates and website optimisation on a monthly contract (minimum 3 months) for an agreed monthly fee, if you don't wish to do it yourself

7)       we don’t charge the earth!   

Next time you pay your website designer to maintain or update your website on your behalf, ask yourself if perhaps you would be better off using a content managed website.
